Family Law and Domestic Relations
Divorce
A divorce is already difficult without dealing with legal formalities. We handle the legal aspects of your case so that you can focus on healing your family. We will represent you through the pendency of legal process, including the below issues:
Child Custody and Visitation – We will help you create a parenting plan that includes the best interests of your children and protects your rights as a parent.
Child Support – We will work with you to ensure that child support calculations accurately reflect the resources of each parent.
Asset Division – No matter how long your marriage was, we know you have worked hard to provide. We will assure that the marital assets are appropriately divided in an equitable fashion. If necessary, we have relationships with forensic accounts who can provide a detailed analysis and provide recommendations.
Spousal Support or Alimony – We will advise you and determine whether alimony should be ordered and, if so, the amount of payments, their frequency, and their duration.
Grandparents' Rights – Georgia law allows for certain situations where grandparents can be awarded visitation and custody of minor children. We can represent these clients to assert these rights and protect the best interests of any children involved.
Guardians ad Litem – Custody Cases
When called upon by the Court or litigants, we perform the services of a Guardian ad Litem, i.e., a Court-Appointed advocate charged with the responsibility to investigate all aspects involved in the placement and custody of minor children. We understand the emotional impact that contest custody action has on the parties and their children. Those insights aid us in the thoroughness of our investigation and the respect and consideration we show to all concerned.
Post-judgement Modification / Enforcement
Following a contested divorce, custody dispute, or child support case, certain issues may arise which can be considered a change of circumstance, warranting a modification of a prior court order. Or, contempt actions may be needed where a party is not following the terms of a court Order. We will work with our clients to make sure Orders are complied with or appropriately modified, as allowed for under Georgia law.
Paternity Disputes
Paternity disputes can be highly emotional for both parties. When your rights are at stake, we will be your advocate, committed to your best interests. A paternity dispute may give rise to future custody or support matters. We will work with parties when there are uncertainties about fatherhood, the determination of which may have an impact on child support and visitation.
Domestic Violence
If you are a victim of domestic violence, seeking a protective order may be a difficult, but necessary decision. At every stage of your case, we will remain compassionate and understanding, while continuing to assert your rights and secure your protective order against an abuser.
Prenuptial Agreements
If you are bringing significant assets into a marriage or have children from a previous marriage, we can protect your interests by preparing a prenuptial agreement, designating in advance the distribution of assets in the event of divorce.
Dependency Cases – Juvenile Court
We represent clients who are forced into Juvenile Court through Dependency proceedings, which will likely include the Department of Family and Children Services or against allegations that you as a parent are unable to care for your child. Our firm has experience in Juvenile Court as appointed Guardians ad Litem, representing the best interests of children and providing recommendations to the Court. Let us use that knowledge to aid your defense in a dependency action. Do not navigate this complex area alone. Allow us the opportunity to guide you and help reunite your family.
